Spousal Support is awarded in many cases, but not all. Ohio law lists several considerations that determine if spousal support is appropriate. All considerations are important, but often, the length of the marriage and the disparity in incomes are the most important.
Spousal support can be awarded while a divorce is pending and/or after the divorce. Every order must address the following: an effective date and ending date, an amount, and the circumstances under which the terms of spousal support can be modified.
